Jonny Hannah ist ein freiberuflicher Illustrator. Seine Leidenschaft gilt der Musik von Hank Williams, Handlettering und den Filmen von Jacques Tati. Mit seinen Projekten Northumberland Folk und Shipbuilders & Fisherfolk erkundete er den Nordosten Englands in seiner ganzen Länge und Breite, mit sechs Ausstellungen zwischen 2021 und 2023.
Zu den jüngsten Veröffentlichungen gehören das Buch The Story of the Skids von Richard Jobson sowie Let there be Light – eine psychogeografische Hommage an die Stadt Hartlepool.
Jonny lebt im realen Southampton, fährt aber auch regelmäßig nach Darktown, seiner imaginären Halbinsel, wo Slim Gaillard McVouty’s besitzt, einen Second-Hand-Laden sondergleichen, und wo Jacques Tourneur das örtliche Kino betreibt. All das zu entdecken in einem wunderbaren Band mit dem Titel Greetings from Darktown.
Dazu spielt er in einer Top-Beat-Combo, The Postmen, urbane Folk-Hymnen mit Refrains aus Sozialwohnungen – über die Pandemie, die existenzielle Ungewissheit des Lebens und den Elephant Rock. Und er steht kurz vor der Fertigstellung des nächsten Buchs mit der Punkrock-Legende Mr. Jobson, das in Berlin-Kreuzberg, spielt. Also vormerken: The Alabama Song.
