Mark Addison Smith: Lettering Activism
→ In his talk, Mark Addison Smith will show examples from his studio practice and tell stories of how he has employed hand-lettering and found-language to engage and empower marginalized communities for political or social change. His talk will include visual samples from his You Look Like The Right Type overheard-dialogue series, connecting strangers though hand-rendered speech and storytelling; his Queer Writing on the Bathroom Wall hate-speech bathroom graffiti series, combating against LGBTQ discrimination; and his Years Yet Yesterday AIDS-activism series, questioning a decade of the ongoing AIDS pandemic.
