Lettering at the kitchen: recipes for letter variation and layout with Ivan Castro
→ In this workshop, we’ll get familiar in an easy and accessible way with letter drawing and how to do simple layouts with lettering. After a general introduction to lettering basics, we’ll get hands on a small project. Starting from ready-made letterforms that we’ll bring to life, we’ll do simple compositions for a lettering piece with the name of a local dish (i.e. Wiener Schnitzel, Sauerkraut mit Wurst, Gaisburger Marsch, etc.), considering letter drawing, the combination of styles and the shape of the composition we’re drawing.
This workshop is suitable for every level. Beginners will find easy to start doing their lettering projects since we’ll have several examples of different alphabets they can start copying them to learn how letters are built, eventually moving forward to do their own interpretations of the letterforms. For more advanced participants, they can focus on other aspects, like composition and layout, spacing and variations on the letterforms. Even though the mechanics of the workshop looks very simple, everyone will find a challenge according to their level.
